And it doesn't even smell too bad!!
{cave12}|This cavern is completely empty! The air smells only slightly dank!!
{cave13}|Not bad for an empty space! In comparison to the other parts of the complex the air doesn't even smell bad!!
{cave21}|This rather odd-shaped cave is cold and drafty. The ground is very muddy and slippery (so be careful where you walk). There is a large pool of swirling water here along the northern wall.
{cave22}|This rather large cave is decidedly colder than the other caves. The ground is very muddy and slippery because the northern wall is literally streaming with water.
{cave23}|It's very muddy and slippery in here ... probably due to the section of swirling water here along the northern wall.
{cave31}|This largish cave smells dank and mouldy. An assortment of moulds grows quite happily on the eastern wall. There are many murky puddles on the floor.
{cave32}|This carven is quite large with an abundance of mould forming grotesque shapes along the eastern wall. Water drops from somewhere overhead into muddy puddles.
{cave33}|This large, mouldy cavern is quite eerie. The mould forms shadowy creatures along the eastern wall.
{cave41}|This cave smells mostly of rotting vegetation. An assortment of fungi grows quite happily on the eastern wall.
{cave42}|The pungent array of odours issuing from the rotting vegetation and assorted fungi do little to enhance the atmosphere of this cave.
{cave43}|The combination of fungus and rotten vegetable matter odours make this a very unappealing cave.
{cave51}|This cave is quite small and cramped. A thick slime coats some of the surrounding walls.
{cave52}|The dimensions of this cave are ridiculously small. Beware of the thick slime on the walls.
{cave53}|Well, if this is a cave, it's a very small one. The slime on the walls in quite revolting.
{cave61}|This naturally-formed cave is small with a low ceiling. Water drips down the eastern wall (from some unknown source) allowing the wall to become slick with an odious slime (ugh!!).
{cave62}|The cave is small with quite a low ceiling. Water drips down the eastern wall (from some unknown source) coating it with an odious slime (ugh!!).
{cave63}|Watch you head, as the celing of this small cave is quite low. Most of the eastern wall is covered with a repulsive slime.
{cave71}|Just another plain, boring and totally uninteresting cave!
{cave72}|For want of a better term this cave is just plain boring!
{cave73}|What can one say ... a boring , boring and totally boring cave!
{cave81}|This roundish cavern is strewn with rubble. It's surprisingly dry in here and the floor quite dusty. Scattered amongst the rubble are various broken implements, bones & sticks.
{cave82}|This almost round cavern is littered with rubble from a ancient cave-in and various bits of debris ... broken bones, implements and so on.
{cave83}|The remains of an ancient cave-in are scattered in varying quantities around this rather round cavern. Abandoned shards of bone and implements are scattered throughout.
{cave91}|Along the southern wall of this large cavern are many huge stalagmites and stalactites like teeth in the gaping maw of a dragon!
{cave92}|Along the southern wall are many stalagmites as well as stalactites giving the appearance of large fangs! At another time this cavern would be a truly awesome place.
{cave93}|The stalactites and stalagmites surrounding this large cavern are quite spectacular. They look suspiciously like dragon's teeth.
{cave101}|Whoa! This cavern is humongous! Signs of reasonably recent habitation abound here. You know, the usual ... broken bones, dead fires, dried blood, bits of fur, and so on!
{cave102}|Is this cavern humongous or what! Hmmm ... broken bones, dried blood, bits of fur, and so on are scattered around the floor.
{cave103}|This is one humongous cavern! Be careful ... broken bones, dried blood, bits of fur, and so on litter the floor!
{cave111}|This is more like a cavity than a cave providing little relief from the close walls.
{cave112}|This is more like a burrow hole than a cave providing little relief from the close walls.
{cave113}|This is more like a hollow than a cave providing little relief from the close walls.
{cave121}|The ground is damp in places and the air is quite stale within this section of the narrow passage.
{cave122}|This is a fairly narrow passage showing signs of dampness.
{cave123}|The passage here is quite narrow. There is some sign of the ever-present dampness showing along the walls.
{cave131}|A maze of twisty passages ... all alike.
{cave132}|A maze of twisty passages ... all different.
{cave133}|A maze of twisty passages ... all confusing.
{cave141}|This cavern is large and almost rectanglar in shape. The ceiling disappears into the gloom far above your head.
{cave142}|This cavern looks like a large rectangular box with extremely high ceilings.
{cave143}|The cavern is just like a large rectangular box. You cannot see the ceiling which disappears into the gloom overhead.
{cave151}|This cavern smells rank and mouldy. A mecca for magic mushrooms as an assortment of fungi grows quite happily on the southern wall. Water constantly drips from the ceiling into murky puddles on the floor.
{cave152}|This cavern smells mostly of rotting vegetation, any gardener would be proud! An crop of fungi grows quite happily on the southern wall under constantly dripping water from above.
{cave153}|The constant smell of fungus is proving to be annoying. The fungus, in its infinite variety, is quite happy growing in grotesque configurations along the southern wall.
{cave161}|In the northern alcove of this small, ovoid chamber is a small mound of dirt surrounded by stones. It looks suspiciously like a burial mound.
{cave162}|In the past some hapless adventurer didn't survive past here. Fortunately, a compassionate companion had the time to create a burial mound.
{cave163}|The small burial mound encircled with stones, almost hidden alng the northern wall, is a grim reminder that the task ahead is fraught with danger.
{cave171}|In this small cave the walls are slick with slime from years of constantly oozing dampness.
{cave172}|The constantly oozing dampness makes this small slimy cave deceptively treacherous ... watch your step!
{cave173}|The constantly oozing dampness it beginning to seep into your bones. The slime on the walls is quite thick here.
{cave181}|You find yourself in another longish, cavern. Along the eastern wall are many stalagmites as well as stalactites - some many metres tall, others wide.
{cave182}|The cold crystaline beauty of the monsterous stalagmites and stalactites along the eastern wall is breath-taking. Pity you haven't the time to enjoy it!
{cave183}|Of all the caverns, the splender of the stalagmites and stalactites along the eastern wall is beyond compare.
{cave191}|Yet another winding tunnel! You haven't been here before, have you?
{cave192}|Tunnels, tunnels and yet more tunnels! Take your pick ...
{cave193}|The tunnels here can be quite confusing ... does this one look familiar?
{cave201}|Phew! This must be the Bog of Eternal Stench and the smell is enough to make your eyes water. Whoever, or more likely, whatever was here before you was definitely NOT potty-trained!
{cave202}|Methinks it may be wise to watch one's step around here ... hmmmm, who or what died in here?
{cave203}|Augh!!! What a noxious bog! Watch your step as the ground is extremely slippery and it may be a long time before you can wash away this stink!
# -- Progressive Hints -- {hint1}|
Think of the layout of the caverns like a squashed dodecahedron. {hint2}|
Attune yourself to the cavern environment and you may avoid an untimely death ... take heed of the clues the caverns provide as danger could be lurking in any direction! {hint3}|
You'll know when the Wumpus is close ... by its distinctive odour! {hint4}|
You'll probably hear the Giant Bats long before you see them. {hint5}|
Falling into a drafty, bottomless pit will be detrimental to your health! Watch you step! {hint6}|
If you happen to chance upon the Giant Bats they will most likely deal with your intrusion ... by promptly depositing you elsewhere! {hint7}|
To kill the Wumpus throw a starblade at it ... THROW STARBLADE [direction] ... from an adjoining cave. {hint8}|
If you throw a starblade and miss the Wumpus will wake up and move. If it moves to your location then you're toast (so to speak)! {hint9}|
The Wumpus has legendary sucker feet so bottomless pits and Giant Bats don't bother it. {hint10}|
Eating a meal will help keep your stamina up. {hint11}|
Your time is ticking away ... perhaps you'd better do something, hmmm? {hint12}|
Perhaps you should try something else ... be creative! # -- Game Statistics can be accessed by typing {stats} # -- Health Status: Currently you are feeling ... {healthStats0}|quite dead really ... bugger! {healthStats1}|really awful ... like on your last legs! {healthStats2}|a little worse for wear! {healthStats3}|in pretty good shape! {healthStats4}|so healthy it's disgusting! # -- Light Status {lightStats0}|
The lantern finally flickers out ... leaving you alone in the dark ... well, maybe not quite alone ... {lightStats1}|
You're almost out of oil ... the lantern's light is very dim. {lightStats2}|
The lantern is starting to flicker and getting dimmer. {lightStats3}|
The lantern is shining brightly. # -- Game Over Descriptions -- # -- 1 = pits, 2 = bats, 3 = wumpus # -- 4 = no health, 5 = no light # -- 6 = killed Wumpus, got mane and at rope # -- 7 = NOT killed Wumpus but got mane and at rope {gameOver1}|

... to your death!
{gameOver2}|

Death by "battery" is not a recommended pastime as it is extremely painful and, apart from a momentary adreneline rush, you don't get much out of the experience. {gameOver3}|

The Wumpus can't resist a tasty morsel and quite happily begins to chomp off your legs. Surprised, the only thing you manage to think is, "This can't be good ..." Within moments the shock of seeing advancing teeth proves to be too great and you fade into oblivion ... {gameOver4}|

The rigours of the Run have become too great ... and you expire in a quivering heap of ... well, I'll leave that to your imagination! {gameOver5}|

You stumble around in the dark for a while ... trying to avoid gradually going insane. In the end, being taken by the creatures lurking in the dark would be a welcome relief. {gameOver6}|

You can't believe it! You'll actually made it back to the ladder, the wumpus is dead and all you have to do is climb out of here ... are you sure this rope will hold together long enough for you to get to the top? {gameOver7}|

You can't believe it! You'll actually made it back to the ladder, the wumpus is unharmed (but you have enough evidence to convince the judges that it is) and all you have to do is climb out of here ... are you sure this rope will hold together long enough for you to get to the top? # -- Dead Wumpus Descriptions -- {deadWumpus1}|Not a pretty sight ... the Wumpus is definitely dead, as the starblade is protruding from its right eye, having buried itself half way into its brain! {deadWumpus2}|A lucky shot ... the starblade severed the Wumpus' jugular. {deadWumpus3}|Oh, that's gotta hurt ... the starblade hit the Wumpus in the chest, cracking ribs and penetrating the heart. {deadWumpus4}|Not a pretty sight ... the Wumpus is definitely dead, as the starblade is protruding from its left eye, having buried itself half way into its brain! # -- Random Slime Descriptions -- {slime1}|
