Welcome! Thank you for your interest in I Contain Multitudes. Please read along to see some hints about beating the game with all quests finished. Below a spoiler line you'll see a comprehensive walkthrough. Enjoy! -------NON-SPOILER HINTS------- Read carefully, and ask the right questions. Some quests, such as Charlotte's, have multiple solutions. Use the masks to your advantage. In addition to adding new dialogue options when choices are made, they can occasionally allow you to do certain things you couldn't without wearing them. Be sure to TALK, talk, talk to people. When possible, ASK them about nouns that may be related to a quest, such as the name of an item you are trying to find. Check room descriptions for things you can LOOK at or otherwise interact with using other verbs. The passage of time is important in this game. You may neet to wait a few minutes between story updates and certain events. Try exploring the ship, talking to someone else, or merely reviewing your log if you find yourself needing to kill time. Find the chronometer and you can check how much time you have left. You need a tongue to talk, don't you? But where could you get one of those, and what could you talk to with it... -------SPOILERS BELOW------- Below is a complete walkthrough of how to complete each quest and finish the game. At the end of this document is a walkthrough in commands for you to follow. Please note that because there are times when the game waits for player input to continue and some events are time based, the walkthrough function of quest does not work. Feel free to follow this written walkthrough or the command walkthrough below it. Depending on which masks you wore while making choices during the game, you will have accumulated points. Whichever mask is highest will "win" and you will be cast as that mask. If you're interested, try playing again and wearing different masks. -------WRITTEN WALKTHROUGH------- You start in the Crew Quarters. Go through the Prologue, selecting any options. TAKE each of the Masks. Go East. Go Up to the Mid Deck. TALK to Charlotte, choose option ONE, then pick any option. You need to get Charlotte some medicine. To do that easily you can: Option 1: Go Up, then go Northeast to the Saloon. ORDER A DRINK. You'll get a Bottle of Whiskey. Option 2: Go Southwest and wait for Tomyris. Ask Tomyris about medicine. She'll sock you. From there go NorthWest, then North. Ask Doctor about medicine. You'll get a Bottle of Laudanum. Assuming you chose option 1, you are in the saloon. (If you are in sickbay because you chose option 2, go South, then Northeast to go to the saloon.) While you're in the saloon, TALK to Arania. Select any option. Go Southwest, then In to enter the Dining Room. While there, TALK to Hartleford. Select any option. Go West to the Kitchen and TAKE the Fillet Knife. Then go North and SEARCH the cabinets to get the Torn Page. Go South, East, Out, Down, and Southeast to get back to the Game Parlor, where Charlotte has moved. GIVE the Bottle (either the whiskey or the laudanum) to Charlotte. She'll go take a nap. From the Game Parlor, go Northwest, then West to get to the Library. TAKE the Libretto that Arania is looking for. PUT the Torn Page INTO the Libretto to repair it. (You can also READ the Libretto if you like.) After two minutes, Hartleford will arrive. It isn't necessary, but if you need to kill time SEARCH the Stacks to find some reading material and world lore. When Hartleford arrives, TALK to him and choose option ONE, then choose any options you like. He'll give you his Letter from Hartleford and his Monocle. Go East, then Southwest to get to the Dark Room. TALK to Tomyris and choose any answer. Go Northeast, then East to get to the Gymnasium. WEAR the Blithe Cherub Mask and LOOK BENEATH the Electric Horse to get the Film Canister. Go West, then Southwest to return to the Dark Room. GIVE the Film Canister to Tomyris. She will begin developing it, and will be done in two minutes time. While we wait, go Northeast, Up, then Northeast again to get to the Saloon once more. GIVE the Libretto to Arania. She'll be delighted and head to her suite, unlocking the door. Shall we go visit her? Go Southwest, South, then Southwest to enter Suite Three. TALK to Arania, select option ONE. Then, for best results, choose option THREE both times. Once the scene is finished, TALK to Arania again. Select any option. Now that we're done with Arania's quest, go Northeast, North, then In to return to the Dining Room. If two minutes have passed since you last spoke to Charlotte, she will be here. TALK to Charlotte once, then TALK to her again. Choose any option you like. Now that we're done with Charlotte's quest, go Out, then Down, then Southwest to return to the Dark Room. First, choose whether you want to GIVE the Letter from Hartleford to Tomyris. Not giving it to her is also acceptable. (The content of the letter, depending on your choices, can lead to various ending states for Hartleford.) Now that we're done with Hartleford's quest, TALK to Tomyris. If two minutes have passed since you last spoke to her, she will have finished developing the film. She'll give you the Strange Photographs. LOOK at the Strange Photographs. Then, making sure you aren't wearing any mask, TALK to Tomyris. She is understandably disturbed. Go Northeast, Up, Up, and West to get to the Viewing Deck. TALK to Empress Indira IV. Choose any answer. In one minute, we can talk to her again. While we wait, go East, then Up, then East to the Bridge. WEAR the Anonymous Bauta and then GIVE the Strange Photographs to the Captain. He will take you to the Captain's Cabin. Choose answer TWO. We now know the truth. The Captain will leave. OPEN the Walnut Desk and TAKE the Metal Key. Go Northwest, then Down, then West to return to the Viewing Deck. TALK to the Queen Mother. She will ask for help finding her missing granddaughter. Since we have the Strange Photographs, GIVE them to the Queen Mother. She leaves. Now that we're done with the Queen Mother's quest, go East, then Down, then North to get to the Sickbay. If you want, you can SHOW the Strange Photographs to Doctor Stauf, then choose any option. Now that we're done with Doctor Stauf's quest, go South, then Down, then Southwest to return to the Dark Room. TALK to Tomyris. She'll be aghast at the new information and move to Suite Two. From this point, we can either go to Suite Two, or continue the game without going to Suite Two. It will affect the ending. To get the True Ending, do NOT do the following: (Go Northeast, then Up, then South, then East to get to Suite Two. After the scene, go West, then North, then Down, then Down, then North to get to the Brig.) If you did not do the above and are still in the Dark Room, go Northeast, then Down, then North to get to the Brig. Although it is not necessary, you can INVESTIGATE the Bishop's Body with the Monocle. You can do this as many times as you like. While here, remember the Fillet Knife we picked up? WEAR the Hungry Devil mask, then REMOVE the bishop's tongue. You will receive the Tongue of Man. If you want, you can now TALK to the Bishop's Body. You may REMOVE the Hungry Devil Mask if you like. (Although it is not necessary, you can SEARCH the Bishop's Body and receive the Key to Suite One. You can then go South, Up, Up, South, and West to access Suite One, where you can TAKE the Bishop's Diary and READ it for story reasons.) From the Brig, go South, then West to get to the Crew Quarters. UNLOCK the Footlocker. TAKE the Spanner. Go East, then South to get to the Engine Room. ASK Howard about Light or Lantern. He'll give you a Lantern. Isn't he sweet? Go North, then East to the Storage room. If you talked to Tomyris in Suite Two, she will be here and will go with you from this point. If not, she will not be here, and you will be able to pursue the True Ending. LOOK Down. There's a metal hatch! OPEN the hatch. Are you ready? There's no turning back from this point. GO down. You will be in Unknown. After several messages, LOOK at The Heart. After the scene, because we have the Bishop's Tongue, we can see a new option. Choose option THREE. After that, choose any options. You will be brought to the Ending, where you will see the fates of various characters including your own. Congratulations! You have now finished I Contain Multitudes with the True Ending, having finished all quests. However, there are still other ending states you can explore by making different choices.
