Koustrea's Contenment Walkthrough for versions 1.00 - 1.06 This is a summary of actions required to complete the game without seeing much of the story. Initial Steps ------------- Check out the Golden Door. X GRID repeatedly until you have noticed all 30 panels. Examine the mural and the constellation. Walk around, meet all 5 NPCs, and make a map if you want. Practise darts in the Game Room. Use the Drafting Table to exit the Unfinished Room. (Tilt it to get it through the doorway.) Explore outside. Go south from the South Ledge and go down to the Valley. Wait until the pashvod chases you away. X PASHVOD from the Path Corner. Go back to the Art Room and push the statue north, then into the channel. Get the lamp from the Library and go down into the Cellar Cave from the Garden. Push the statue east and check out the controls. You will need 2 crystals. Also observe that the metal pipe ultimately connects the Golden door to the dome on the Rooftop. From the nw corner of the Cellar, break the lattice twice and enter the office. Search the pockets. X CHAIR, MOVE BONES, SIT IN CHAIR, TURN OFF LAMP. X SCREEN and touch the rectangles to see all five screens. Back in the Cellar, push the wine rack sw to help you get out. You won't have to explicitly stand on the rack or climb it. Getting Some Answers -------------------- (You can skip this section if you just need to see the ending in a hurry, without seeing any of the backstory or the motivations for the proper actions.) Now you know all the NPCs and the name Syorcia. You can ask people about each other to learn about the relationships, the order of arrival, and some of the backstory. You can determine that Syorcia is the author of the journals. Most of the hints and backstory, as well as some essential bits of information, are given from the following general motif: 1. Learn the names of football players and teams from various places, mostly by asking Quaichloy about stuff. 2. Look up players and teams in the Record Book to learn season numbers that correspond to major events. 3. Look up the season numbers in Syorcia's journal to get clues and backstory. We will skip everything here except the absolutely necessary clues. Ask Towsimoom about the aquarium and floatstones, and show her the tile mat. Ask Towsimoom and Zeolt about the airfish. (In order to talk to Zeolt, you will have to PRESS STOP first.) Ask Quaichloy about Lubandhu, Towsimoom, and the bar. In the Record Book, look up Quain and Stauzzlau. In the journals, look up the first entry, the last entry, 5992, and 12736. Make sure you have examined the dents in the carpet of the bedroom and the base of the globe, and you have read the journal entry about Lubandhu, then return to Zeolt. Ask Zeolt about Syorcia, the journals, and finally, the globe. Solving the Puzzles ------------------- (Go through the Initial Steps section first) --Getting the Dagger-- Follow Zeolt's instructions to retrieve the dagger (see above), but don't give it to Lubandhu while he is in the Kitchen. Zeolt's instructions will be to SPIN GLOBE and SQUEEZE BRACKET. Don't forget to TAKE DAGGER. --Entering the Kitchen-- Order a cigarette from the bar and use it to lure the airfish into the Breakfast Room. Close the door, and then scare the airfish with darts or the dial-a-down. Enter the Kitchen, search the cabinets, and take the pot. --Using the Tile Mat-- Put the pot on the stalagmite and ZZ until the pot is full. Pour the pot into the basin in the Garden, then put the tile mat in too. Six tiles will float. Push the corresponding panels on the Golden Door (carefully). (You must have first examined the GRID on the Golden Door enough times to see all the panels.) The door will respond to the correct set, and this is one of two things that must be done to activate the beacon. --Getting the White Crystal-- Crevices are mentioned at the south end of the Marble Hall, but there are some in each section. You will find a white crystal at the north end, after X CREVICES and X WHITE GEODE. --Getting the Violet Crystal-- First, have the white crystal. In the Music Room, PRESS STOP, OPEN DOME, X CIRCUITRY, TAKE VIOLET. PUT WHITE IN CIRCUITRY. Zeolt won't let you have the violet one otherwise. --Getting the Red Crystal-- You can learn that Towsimoom once had the red crystal and find out what she probably did with it. In the Art Room, X SPLATTERS, then DIG IN SPLATTERS five times. OPEN CHUNK. X RED CRYSTAL. --Using the Crystals-- In the Cellar, make sure the statue is near the controls and stand on it. Put the red and violet crystals into the geodes, which is the other step in activating the beacon. Push the button next to the red crystal--inverting its color to cyan--to make the light window blue. (Cyan and Violet together will only transmit blue light. This is impossible with the white crystal.) --Aiming the Beacon-- Skipping the clues that lead to this, go to the Rooftop and ROTATE DOME until it faces south. If you have activated the beacon and made it blue, a yellow signal will appear in the distant mountains to the south, after you ZZ a few times. --Killing the Pashvod-- First, you must get Lubandhu out of the Kitchen and you must have seen the pashvod. Give Lu the dagger and tell him about the pashvod. He will follow you to the Path Corner outside. Wait until the pashvod seems further away, then go down to the Valley. Save the game, just in case. Attack the pashvod with darts immediately. You need to hit 3 times, which is likely if you practised darts enough. If you miss once, you can use the dial-a-down once. But you can't miss twice. --Winning the Game-- If the yellow signal has appeared in the mountains and you have defeated the pashvod, simply go south from the Valley. (STAND ON TABLE in Table Area) ...asked Quaichloy about the Paveways? ...thrown the cigarette into the Kitchen while Lubandhu is in there? ...examined Lubandhu's junk? ...looked under the slab desk in the office? ...floated the cigarette or other things in the basin? ...examined the afterimage (four times) at any time after activating the Golden Door? ...shown Quaichloy the dial-a-down? ...thrown darts at something illogical? ...tried to go nw from the Valley when the pashvod first appears? ...put a crystal back into a geode in the Marble Hall?
